PROFILE

Maria Tauber Wiese is a self-taught artist and photographer, working and exhibiting in between Peru and Europe. For the past 6 years, Maria has worked with art, as a way to enable transformation and education about life in the ecosystems. Her focus is primarily on the Amazon rainforest and the topic of protecting biodiversity and the existence of the indigenous people; also referred to as the protectors of the climate balance. Maria uses storytelling, to address the global crisis we all face, particularly in terms of loss of biodiversity and cultural identity, and thereby a crisis of climate change. Maria operates from the firm belief that in order to create hope and change, we must work together to rebuild the relationship between nature and humans. In 2016 Maria firstly moved to the Peruvian Amazon to work in a national indigenous educational program, her experience led her to develop the art and educational project RUNAPA KAWSANA ALLPAN. The project consists of an educational game and an exhibition project, which both are being developed in collaboration with the indigenous people, biologists, and artists in the Amazon rainforest, to give them a voice and to create educational material for children about how to preserve life in the Amazon. Every year the exhibition is presented at the Ministry of Culture (Peru) as well as in Europe. In 2018 Maria build the art residence with her local Amazonian family, DIIBUU, in the Amazon. Maria is born in Denmark and has a background as a Corporate Social Responsibility senior consultant and an education in Business and Development Studies.
